Some people are born to be very expressive and choose the medium of writing to speak out their mind. Some people choose to learn writing to be their source of monetary income or the likes. Talent? Yes, because you show the things that you can conceive in your mind and share it thru writing. That is talent.

Why do I write? But more than the interest, talent, and skills, or any other kinds of influences, being a writer could also be because of bloodline. A gift that is passed on through genes. A legacy.

SBC is full of surprises. Who would have thought we have on board a legacy to the Philippine literature? Yes. He is known as one of the pioneers of SBC, and he is with us to share his gift and to help us revive and promote the modern day Philippine literature.

StorPpy: Who is Aftermat? What is his relation to the Philippine Literature?

Aftermat: Well I am a direct descendant of a great literature/writer at siya ang biggest influence ko, but by saying that means I’m living under his wings. Anyway, I am a writer/artist who wanted to reach somewhere by starting from the ground (as in ground-zero). Self-made as they say it. I love reading, I love learning new things. I love writing. And Philippine Literature is the best starting point for any Filipino writers to begin with. This is where my passion in writing is closest to.

*Kuya Mat is the son of the late Filipino playwright Dionisio Salazar, writer of “Sinag sa Karimlan” and a librettist of the musical play, “Andres Bonifacio: Ang Dakilang Anak Pawis.” The latter is yearly shown in different cultural sites for 50 years now.*

S: What is the Seal of Light? What is it all about?

A: A modern fantasy story which collaborates mystical elements, astral and divine related stuffs. It also tackles fellowship, love and a personal pursuit for significance and purpose. Seal of Light is a mark placed or bestowed on the body of its carrier, who will receive extraordinary powers to help them fight their enemies.

S: How do you come up with the idea of creating SoL?

A: Inspired by my fascination to Philippine Literature with our sense of art and humor, part of my story was influenced also by Japanese manga/anime and Western style of animation/story telling. The story is even related to some biblical facts and opinion, and then injected to my own flow of storytelling ideas.

S: Sino si Mat Adam?

A: The male protagonist of the story. I would describe him as an ordinary guy, but with a good sense of judgment and leadership. He is not much of an Alpha Type nor a Charmer but he could (and would) kick ass when he needed to. The story runs mostly on his life story, his development as a carrier of the Seal of Light, and his battle against this newly freed demon.

S: What is writing for you?

A: It is an expression as anyone would always say. But further than that, this is also a journey, and exploration of knowledge, a form of communication. It gives me the freedom to think out loud and tell others what is on my mind. Your product, (your writings and stories) is a written representation of you.

S: So far, what is the best experience you have encountered because of writing?

A: Meeting other great writers, knowing that writing and journalism is still alive on the younger generation, reading and discovering other genres and how the writers (of all ages) gives justice to it.

A: Both. Some people are born to be very expressive and choose the medium of writing to speak out their mind. Some people choose to learn writing to be their source of monetary income or the likes. Talent? Yes, because you show the things that you can conceive in your mind and share it thru writing. That is talent.

A: To be honest, gusto kong maramdaman nila yun masabik, mapaisip sa binasa nila, matuto, at higit sa lahat maging masaya.

A: Sa SoL yes, kasi trilogy yun.

A: As you read, enjoy, hope you will find some (good) messages in-between lines and scenes.

Thank You!

  1. Thank you so much sa lahat ng Storppy Admins.
